House-proud
10-minute play Southwark Playhouse “Living in London is a privilege, not a right. Which means it comes at a premium.” A young single mum and a student activist occupy a derelict mansion on the Bishop’s Avenue as they fight to stop a new landlord from evicting the tenants of a north London estate. House-proud had its premiere at the Southwark Playhouse on 21 June 2015. It was performed as one of three short plays that accompanied Child Z, a new 90-minute play by Sarah Hehir. As playwrights, we were asked to explore situations in which people are struggling to be heard by authorities or organisations. House-proud was chosen from more than 300 submissions. |
Pijara
10-minute play Brockley Jack Studio Theatre “They take passports. Put us in camps... 14 in each room. Too much heat. Cockroaches everywhere.” A desperate Nepalese migrant takes a FIFA employee hostage in a bid to secure his freedom from a life of near-slavery in Qatar. Pijara was premiered at the Brockley Jack Studio Theatre, as part of Write On, the Jack Writers’ Workshop annual showcase, on 15 March 2015. |
Fulfilled
7-minute play Chelsea Theatre “Tell you what, you can help me unpack these blu rays. That media studies degree should come in handy.” An indebted graduate, who hates her job working in a warehouse owned by a major online retailer, decides to make a very clear stand against the way it treats its staff. Fulfilled was performed script-in-hand at the Chelsea Theatre on 12 March 2015. The performance was part of DEADLY SE7EN, an evening of seven-minute plays, based on the seven deadly sins. |
Old Romantic
10-minute play Spontaneous Productions and Sydenham Arts Festival “So how many marriages do you think you’ve broken up?” The founder of an extramarital dating site learns the emotional cost of his chosen line of work following a bruising radio interview and a disastrous lunch with his estranged daughter. Old Romantic was performed script-in-hand by actors at the Stage Write Showcase at The Hob, Forest Hill on 14 July 2014 as part of the Sydenham Arts Festival. |

15-minute play Entry for Shudders Theatre competition, South Wales – longlisted “I didn’t dream it. What if he comes for us next?” An aspiring novelist, racked with writer’s block, struggles to keep his relationship and sanity intact as he’s tormented by a sinister neighbour. |
